Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his parents and commitment in the local community. First family he is the youngest of nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starting line-up for just one year. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the leading lineman of the nation. Oklahoma had two National Championships throughout his three-year tenure as the lineman. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during his time in college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began a career in business. He began his career in 1988. began working as an Account Relations Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed with the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and for the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's top 10 young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds at the time he played in college. He was captain of the team in 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. The university named him to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
